Argentina became the first country in Latin America legalized marriage between gays and lesbians.
Many demonstrators responded to the law, with joy. "Parliament has made a very important decision," the newspaper quoted "La Nacion" the Chairman of the Government Group of Miguel Ángel Pichetto.
The Catholic Church clearly expressed against this decision. Days earlier, about 50,000 people had participated in a protest rally outside the parliament in the capital Buenos Aires. Under the slogan "Children have a right to a mother and a father," she protested against the draft law, the archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, branded as a "stroke of the devil" had.
